FDA regulates all foods except meat, poultry, and egg products, which are regulated by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).<\/p>\n<h3>How Major Food Allergens Are Listed<\/h3>\n<p>The law requires that food labels identify the food source names of all major food allergens used to make the food. This requirement is met if the common\u00a0 or usual name of an ingredient (e.g., buttermilk) that is a major food allergen\u00a0 already identifies that allergen\u2019s food source name (i.e., milk).
